Jonah is stable enough to go to surgery today. He will be taken down in just a bit. I so appreciate being a part of the rounds each morning. I am able to understand a good portion of what they are discussing and I am always invited to share any of my concerns or comments. Jo's ICPs have been very good this morning, however when they back down on his sedation meds he starts to out-breathe his ventilator. This fight or flight type of breathing is very hard on his body and causes his ICPs to climb higher. He is very puffy. He has swollen feet, ankles, and hands from all the fluids being pushed into his body. They have now had to introduce a diuretic to help remove this excess fluid. He is also being given insulin shots to keep his blood sugars lower than 150 because high blood sugars cause bacteria to grow in the blood stream. They are also concerned about his protein intake not being adequate, the goal is to push protein once he is back from surgery. His face is less swollen. He is still on paralyzing meds and heavy sedation medications. We are hoping that his ICPs do not climb because of his surgery. He does not tolerate much movement. Prayers are definitely still needed. I sure LOVE my boy!!!!
